The Outsider

Yet another poem on teen angst.....what can I say, I understand and connect with losers, outsiders, misfits, and the vast legions of young people who feel alienated and feel like they don't have any connection with the environment they're in or the cliques they run into....That, and there's something about listening to Radiohead that gets me in this mood.

Songs I was listening to: "How to Disappear Completely," "Everything In Its Right Place," "Optimistic," "Planet Telex," "Bullet Proof...I Wish I Was," "Street Spirit (Fade Out)," "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi"

These pictures
On my screen
They tease me

Snapshots of groups of friends
At parties, having fun times, with lovers
They're all teasing me

These places, their faces
They're tormenting my head
They're part of a world I'll never be apart of

No matter how hard I'll try
No matter how I wish I may and might
I'll always be an outsider, looking into their light

On This Day, April 23

* 1661 – King Charles II of England is crowned in Westminster Abbey.

* 1935 – The Polish Constitution of 1935 is adopted.

* 1967 - Students at Colombia University raid an admissions building, shutting down the school in protest of the Vietnam War.

* 1985 - Coco-Cola releases "New Coke".....then changes the brand back to the regular formula because of the public backlash three months later.

* 1988 - Dark Side of the Moon, which spent a consecutive of 741 weeks on the Billboard 200, bows out

Bust most importantly, on this day, Jonathan Purcell Holmes, was born on this day.

And as it turns out, I have a star-studded line up of celebrities who share the same birthday as I: William Shakespeare, Michael Moore (Oh, yeah!), Kal Penn, Dev Patel, Andruw Jones (outfielder for the Texas Rangers), George Lopez, Shirley Temple

My Cat Soxy

When I was around seven, mom decided on getting a playmate for our Pomeranian, Rusty. The second pet was a black cat with a white underbelly, which we named Soxy.

Today, after eleven years, my cat Soxy passed on to the great liter box in they sky.

He loved chasing the dog around, fighting for food and affection, loafing around, roaming outdoors, and snuggling up to us.

He was a good pet - I guess that's all we can really ask for.

I hope he knows that I loved him deeply, and that I tried to take care of him to the best of my ability.

Hermit Shell Home

Probably the biggest inspiration for writing this poem was a friend of mine, who shall remain anonymous, basically gave me a well-needed kick in the pants, about a letter I never wrote that she took as me asking for pity.

I havn't failed. You have. Do not continure to blame your trobles on others. It is you that is in the driver seat of your life. Take it by the wheel! I understand your life may "suck" and as probably "sucked" since highschool, and I've got news, it doesn't get better. Your life will continue to "suck" if you choose to play the victim in your own life. Get out there! Join the paper. Get a job!!!!! ooo. Get. A. JOB!!!! You meet so many cool people that way, and the prize is that you get paid to do so. Do not blame anything on anyone except for yourself because I will not take pity.
Quit being afriad and go out there!

Those words really sunk in. And they haven't left yet. Which is a very, very good thing.

Like all my other poems, they were inspired by songs I have been listening to, and this one's no different.

"Lovers in Japan" - Coldplay
"Let Go" - Frou Frou
"Lost!" - Coldplay
"Beautiful Day" - U2
"Smile" - Weezer
"Your Heart Is An Empty Room" - Death Cab For Cutie
"Caring Is Creepy" - The Shins

Hey!
You there
Hiding in your hermit shell home
Why are you living in an empty hole?
Why are you living like you're all alone>

Your time to shine
Is coming soon, my son!

It's time for you to fly
Into the warm arms of the sun.

Hey!
You there
There's so much to life for today
Quit retreating into melancholy and despair
Why piss it all away from more rainy days?

Your time to shine
Is coming soon, my son!

It's time for you to fly
Into the warm arms of the sun

Hey!
You there
Get up, get out, and take a look round
You say your lost, we're all missing as well
Jump right in, and you'll find your own meaning of being found

Your time to shine
Is coming soon, my son!

It's your time to fly
Into the warm arms of the sun

You there
Hiding in your hermit shell home
Please come out of that empty hole
You don't have to chose to live like your alone.
