Sometimes though, you have people so stuck-on-stupid and so blinded by the partisan glasses that they wear, that they reuse to see reality.
Ralph, a blogger at Americaphile, happens to top the craziest of the lunatics who still blindly support George Bush, although most Americans now see our Commander-In-Chief as a complete incompetent who can't manage to fight a war, let alone take care of his own people during a national crisis(Katrina anyone?).
And when I mean crazy, I mean completely batshit crazy. The kind of crazy where you can't believe what the hell you're hearing.

As I said before, both sides have their extreme followers. Take the case of last week's anti-war protests in Portland, Oregon where in a crowd of 15,000 peaceful protestors, a handful of anti-militarists burned an effigy of a U.S. serviceman and burned the U.S. flag.
Unfortunately, in today's political climate, we have loud and obnoxious partisans who try and make one stupid incident or the sayings of one shock jock, paint the other side with the same brush, and i'll be honest, i've done it myself when I get annoyed with the folks who still blindly support Bush, although I don't consider myself a partisan to the Democrats.
What both Republicans and Democrats need to do is to drown out the obnoxious voices from the shock jocks, the partisan hacks, and the blind followers, sit down and talk about the issues that our nation is facing, and find a way to re-connect a divided America after six years of partisan games and division tactics from the current administration.

On the South Park Blocks, a handful of people set afire a uniformed effigy of a U.S. soldier and an upside-down flag. Around them, bystanders took pictures. Some of these images have made several loops of the planet by now, with the "Portland" marquee from the Performing Arts Center centered in the background.
The backlash began a day later.
"These jackasses are pure SCUM," reads one of the e-mails received here this week. "It's because of the sacrifices of these soldiers they have the freedom to act like idiots."
Others of the 15,000 or so marchers were horrified to learn about the small demonstration with the burning effigy. They say they weren't aware it was happening and wish that it hadn't.
"So much for supporting the troops," read an e-mail from an Oregon National Guardsman.

I have gone back and forth on whether Ralph is a Liberal using parody or genuinely bat shit crazy. I have come to the sad conclusion that it's the latter.
Ralph is good comedy and nothing more. I would be shocked if in real life he isn't more that a fry cook or collecting unemployment. Not that there is anything wrong with either of these things, it would just fit his personality.
Either way Ralph is a nut who is to be laughed at not feared.
I personally believe that the wannabe rioters in Portland were really right-wingers trying to smear the anti-war movement, especially because of the fact that they burned a flag (the Right is pretty desperate for an actual instance of flag burning, so they have an excuse to ban it).
That said, there's no denying the fact that the Left has plenty of fruitcakes of its own. Exhibit A is the "9/11 Truth" crowd itself.
True their not as criminally insane as Ralph the Magnificent, but nobody's that bad. Ralphie is special, unique, an act of God. I don't know what His reason is, but there is no other conceivable explanation.

Like the guy who keeps having his son rip up his daughters campaign signs so she starts crying? I can buy that.
I don't see Ralph as necessarily indicative of the far right. He's a nut,simply put.
And that's only IF he's not punking the world,which occasionally happens.
As far as the true far right,I feel that the reason they are as they are is fear. They fear change,fear the progression of society. It puts them 'out of their element' and that's far too uncomfortable for them.
They hide behind the mantra of 'traditionalism'. This is solely to obfuscate the fact that their fear drives them. Fear,to them,is a very un-manly emotion,and as we've seen they are absolutely incapable of honestly diagnosing their own fear.
I think it's fairly safe to say,that any major social movement we've had has been plagued by these same types of mentality. We saw it with the end of slavery,woman's voting rights,de-segregation,etc...
That's not to say that the far fringes of the left aren't as equally rabid. They,however,seem intent on pushing things to the extreme in a forward-thinking environment.
Which is just as bad in a lot of ways,IMO. We can't forget the past as we move forward,or we'll make the same ignorant mistakes.
To me,Staying grounded in reality is important,but living in the past is counterproductive.
I think that the thing they fear most is admitting they were wrong.
